The most important cooking tool, the cooking stove, was invented by Benjamin Franklin, a politician, publisher, journalist and scientist. Of course, on June 11, 1742, its design is very different from modern models. The Franklin stove, also known as the Pennsylvania fireplace, was both a cooking area and a radiator for heating the room. Cast iron was used for its walls, which improved the thermal conductivity of the stove. There is a legend that Franklin’s personal experience has led him to the invention: once again burned on his stove, he promised to himself furiously to improve this device to keep his skin from blisters. For that time, the Pennsylvania fireplace was a real revolution in the cooking process. Since then there has been heated debate about which Benjamin Franklin’s invention is better known in history. He invented the lightning rod, invented bifocal glasses, got a patent for a rocking chair, came up with the idea of an electric motor. And, of course, he invented the Franklin stove. Curiously, the inventor did not patent his fireplace, saying that he was happy to be able to serve other people unselfishly. For his outstanding contribution to science, his name was included in the list of the most outstanding representatives of humanity by decision of the World Peace Council. His image adorns a $100 bill, although Benjamin Franklin was never the President of the United States.
